The following ideas and suggestions are from Dr. Weiss' book 101 Fredom Exercises, my personal experiences, and experiences from other men in recovery. Please feel free to use them, copy them, improve on them, and most of all, pass them on!

Practical Travel Tips
Traveling can be difficult for you when first into recovery, especially if part of your acting out had involved traveling. There are valuable tips to help aid you in your recovery.
1. Make your travel arrangements well in advance, only stay at hotels that do not offer pay-per-view, or offer internet connection in the rooms.
2. Inform your sponsor/group that you will be traveling. Let them know specificaly where and when you will be gone. It is helpful to them also to know if any prior acting out was involved in this area.
3.While driving, only stop for gas at well lit, newer gas stations, avoid large truckstops if possible, and always pay at the pump. Stop at fastfood restraunts to use the restroom, they are cleaner, and you can pick up a coke while you are there. I have never run into pornography in a fastfood restraunt.
4.When checking into the hotel, call your sponsor/accountability partner, clue him in on the enviroment, such as there is a strip club or an adult book store right down the road. Let him know things like, the only room they had left was pool side, and by the way, a bus load of college girls just pulled in. When going into the room, first install a TV lock (just scroll down) and throw the remote and movie guide in a drawer.
5. Give the hotel phone number and room number to your sponsor/accountability partner as soon as you check in. Tell them to call you in the room at any time, to check up on you. Calling you on your cell phone is not an option, you could be anywhere.
6. If you get lonely, and need to, go to the lobby, sit and watch the TV there, It is a place of business, there would be appropriate programing on.
TV Lock
A TV lock is a small luggage lock, that is inserted into one of the holes of the prongs of the plugin of the TV. Install the lock and hang the cord over the front of the TV. It is a good idea to test the lock prior to using it for the first time. After installing the lock, take the key and give it to someone you are traveling with. If you are traveling alone, just lay the key on the ground and back your car tire over the key. This way, if you are tempted to turn on the TV at night, you will have to get dressed, and start the car just to get the key. This should curb any desire to flip through the channels.
The Rubberband
This is a simple behavior modification technique, when first into recovery, you will be having alot of sexual inappropriate thoughts. To battle this, simpely put a rubberband on your wrist, when you have a sexually inappropriate thought, you pull back on the rubberband on the inside of the wrist and snap it. In about 30 days, your thought life will clear up, you are retraining the brain.
Build Your New Library
It is important for you new into recovery to have an understanding of just what exactly you are batteling. That is where your library comes in handy, here is a list of very helpful and informational books on this subject.

Avoid H.A.L.T.
Some things can be easily overlooked through out the day, and we wonder why we are having all these strong temptations. A simple thing to be aware of is to avoid H.A.L.T. This is:

Hungry
Angry
Lonely
Tired

Any of these 4 can trigger a relapse, the more factors you have, the more likely of a difficult time in recovery.
Extreme Travel Tips
Desprate times call desprate for desprate measures. In recovery we say, "What ever it takes". This will mean diffrent things for diffrent people. The following are some extreme tips. Some men have had to do the following:
1. Not travel for 6 months
2. Travel with another person, not in ajoining rooms, but in the same room.
3. Have the TV totaly removed from the hotel room prior to checking in.

Convenience Stores/Gas Stations
When traveling or just around town, it is good to not put yourself into a situation where you may be tempted to see pornography. When traveling in an unfimillar area, it is best to pay at the pump. If that is not an option, then choose wisely which place to stop. When you are in your town local, choose a chain of gas stations or convenience stores that you know DO NOT sell pornography.
"Why Won't God Just Take This Addiction Away From Me???"
Often times, we are asked, or we may even ask this question ourselves. I ask this question. Which of these two trucks would you cherish, and why?

Brand New Ford F350 Dually Quad Cab
Your dad comes up to you and gives you the keys to a brand new Ford F350 4WD quad cab dually, it is your favorite color, and has every option that is offered.

Used Ford F350
You look in the local paper, and find a Ford F350 4WD, that is kinda beat up and needs some work. It does not run well and the transmission slips. You call your dad and ask him to help you fix it up after you make the 4 payments of 250 to the owner. You relationship with your dad has never been a deep one, because of your self-centeredness, not his reluctance. You both work together every day, and every night fixing that old truck. You get it running smooth, and the transmission fixed. Then you start on the exterior, fix the rust, the dents, and replace the taillight lens that was missing. Finally it is painted and running great! After a year of work everyday, it took a while because you are hard headed, and did not listen to dad, but he let you learn from your mistakes, and you grew from them.
